An "Ombudsman" is a citizen representative who advocates on behalf of others to resolve specific issues and concerns. The Ombudsmen are volunteers who are specially trained and certified. The volunteers are granted authority under Section 400.0061(2), Florida Statutes. It is an Ombudsman's job to protect the rights and ensure they receive appropriate treatment and attain the highest quality of life possible. 					This agency provides a full-range of civil legal assistance and community legal education from its Gainesville office to the residents of Alachua, Bradford, Baker, Gilchrist, Levy and Union counties.   Publicly funded legal aid service is provided. Civil cases only are accepted, and clients must in general meet the income requirement of being at or below 200% of the federal poverty level.  Senior Citizens in Alachua County may seek a referral from Elder Care of Alachua under a Title III contract for legal assistance.  Income limits may not apply in cases of domestic abuse. All services are free except that clients may be required to pay for certain costs of litigation when necessary.
